Offshore Venice LA Fishing Report: 08-09-2011

Been fishing a good bit recently as the fishing has stayed consisently good. Plenty of fish busting around the rigs along with a huge and sometimes annoying amount of bonitos which is somewhat unusual for the floaters. We definitly caught more then our share of bonitos on topwaters and jigs.

I even fished the days that don was coming across the gulf and did well then as well in some really big swells. Almost all of the fish I caught came on live hardtails with a few on poppers and a few on chunks. I had to go as light as 40 pound leader with the boat traffic a couple of days but mostly stuck with 60 and 80. The hardtails have showed up mostly everywhere with there being plenty in the desireable 4-5 inch range.

I did run one overnighter and the night bite was definitly slow although we caught a couple small yf jigging and some blackfins on the chunk at first light the bite went off though and we had a killer topwater bite between 630-730 in the morning.

I didnt see too many dolphin around and kinda left the amberjack alone as the tuna bite was strong.

I am looking forward to another week straight of fishing in beautiful venice la.

I have plenty of openings in september and hopefully this great summer run continues into the fall.
