Offshore Venice LA Fishing Report: 04-09-2015

Been a while since I made a report. The fishing went through a couple stages. For a little while the bigger class yf were in open water chasing ballyhoo and we had to chase them down with topwaters while they were up to get after them. For a week I managed one or two yf in open water everyday to go along with all the blacks in close and the smaller yf we were getting off the rigs. Had some fun cast netting ballyhoos at times as well and using them to live chum blackfins to the top.
We tried live baiting ballyhoos for yf at the rigs but it didnt work out to well so most of the rig fish came on chunks.
The biggest fish I got in the last month was a 120 pounder that came on a pink mirrorlure.
The last stretch I fished I was staying in close chumming up blackfins with ease as well as amberjacks. We would keep 15-20 blacks then start catching and releasing them trying to get a yf. Put a big chunk on for them and all I would generally get was a really big shark lol
The jacks and scamps were biting anteater jigs pretty good as well.
The live bait is starting to show up although the tuna havent really keyed in on hardtails yet.
